Episode 14: How The Game Is Played (Part I)
March 24th, 2021 – This week’s episode gave us a lot to talk about, and honestly, there was so much to it, that we had to split it up and go into a separate episode for part two! One other interesting thing on this episode, we had to lead in with a legal disclaimer about investments. While we talk about investments on our episode, we are not a podcast to look to for financial advice (there’s honestly many out there if you’re interested though) – so please take everything we discuss as just educational and entertainment.
Tim ran us through what’s going on in the world of investing, and what it’s like to be a CIO, and most importantly for many of us – he shares with us his thoughts and observations about what is going on with GameStop and what does it mean for the average person!
There really was a lot to go through in this episode, as Tim also touches a little on cryptocurrency, something we haven’t talked about on this podcast yet, but we’ll breach that topic with our next episode (part two). For many of us, what’s been going on with WallStreetBets and GameStop though, it can be almost a little overwhelming, hearing about shorts, options, puts, calls, and Tim does a solid job on trying to help demystify what those are, and how this all relates to the average investor.
We also talk about what the impact all of this had, and whether what was done by RobinHood with limiting buys was justified or was some type of intentional manipulation.
While I think all of you loyal readers are aware, we typically are recording these several weeks in advance now (to help make my life easier!), but it’s interesting that we’re still seeing the topic of GameStop very strong today, and there’s a lot of different sides and opinions on this, but wherever folks stand, there is much more permanence associated to this movement than I think most were thinking back in January of this year. It’ll be interesting to see where this ends up ultimately, and whether or not it does go down into the history books, so time will tell.
This episode I also had fun busting out a “Next time on Between Two Studds” outro, which some have commented on already. I had fun doing this, and it’s weird what some pick up in listens (or don’t), but as I think you’re all aware at this point, feel free to hit us up sometime with some fanmail or just drop us a comment as we check them out and appreciate it! And who knows, maybe you’ll be featured on the next episode!
Be sure to check out this episode, and be on the lookout for part two next week!
