Episode 13: How Ranma 1/2 Hurt Me In College
March 24th, 2021 – Admittedly, this post is a little late. Actually, it’s over a week late, so sorry about that, working on getting a little more timely with our posts and coordinating them with episode releases.
Dr. Andrew Burkley joined Alex and I for this episode where we talked about a number of different topics, which made for some great conversation.
In the episode, Drew talks about how he first met me (Ron) back during my senior year of high school (which was a fun challenge as I had moved that year). Since then, Drew and I have been on many adventures, and several of these included Alex as well!
We touch on psychology a lot in this episode, as Drew is a Psychologist and I think we’re all currently looking forward to a life post-COVID, but there are many questions about how people will adapt. For many children, this time has been particularly difficult, while these are formative years for many, what impact (if any) will this time without interaction or time with masks have on most? As adults, there’s certainly many questions out there as well, but I think we’re all more resilient than most of us realize, but returning to some sense of “normal” is certainly something we are all looking forward to!
Until “normal” hits, it’s important to enjoy your favorite video games, tv shows, movies, books, and music! We catch up with Drew in this episode about the show Ranma 1/2, an anime that I introduced him to back in college. Little did I know at the time, that I’d end up hurting Drew’s semester! Drew talked about how he got into the show in a big way, and honestly, I can’t blame him. We haven’t talked much about anime on our show, and that may be something we touch on at some point, but this show is a light hearted comedy that is fun to watch, so if you’re looking for something as well, may be worth checking out – just don’t binge watch all of it at once!
Drew is also one of my go-to experts on Star Wars, although he’s insisted that my knowledge of it is improving (thank you very much for many youtube videos explaining the deeper lore)! There’s so much to Star Wars, and it’s interesting how many of us have found different parts of it that speak to us, which is awesome, anything that can inspire your imagination and entertain is good in my book! We also hit on some of the challenges that comes with a franchise like Star Wars too, while it’s easy to rest on the great work that was done early (and also make light hearted jabs about the Christmas special), a universe like Star Wars is always growing with content, some good and some bad.
Finally, in this episode we hit on some Video Gaming, as that’s something Drew is a big fan of! Drew has a game room with multiple systems, and I honestly need to get a picture to post here for everyone to see! Drew’s a big fan of retro gaming, and we talk a little about retro gaming. Drew hits on the game Zool 2 for the Atari Jaguar, which I had the pleasure of playing shortly after recording this with him!
Be sure to check this episode out, and apologies for the delay in getting this one out!
